Starting a blog

So you’ve started a new blog and are wondering what to do next. You’re not alone, trust me. I was there when I started my first blog almost 2 years ago. I didn’t have a plan as to what I wanted it to be or what I wanted it to do for me; so it got seldom used. I am starting this new experience with a little more thought in the process of launching a new blog. My goals for this blog are fairly simple. Write about blogging to try to help fellow bloggers and increase traffic to improve my page rankings. For those of you that are new to the blogosphere, you should answer this question.

What do I want my blog to do for me?

I’ve seen many blogs where this question was obviously never asked. Don’t forget, there is NO wrong answer to this question either. Some people want to keep an on-line journal for family and friends to read; some want a more technical blog to help fellow programmers in their programming hobbies or careers; some use it to meet new people; some want to make money from their blog. These are all nice reasons to have a blog. There is one common objective in all of these scenarios however: post what your audience is interested in. If you do that, they will come back and be a regular reader of your blog. If you don’t, you need to answer that question again. If you remember, my answer was: “Write about blogging to try to help fellow bloggers and increase traffic to improve my page rankings.” Well, the second part of my answer really isn’t necessary if I accomplish the first part. However, I am going to approach other avenues to improve my page rankings. Which I will explain in more detail in future posts. Let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves though, as you still need to answer that question. I’ll provide other steps in yet to be released posts, but I think I’ll give you some time to think about that question first.
