Comment on other Blogs
The importance of commenting on other blogs is one of the most overlooked and unappreciated tasks when running your own blog. This simple task of commenting on other peoples blog has a way of greatly improving the traffic to your own site.
I am going to perform an experiment of sorts. I’m currently averaging about 30 visits per week to this site. I am going to make a concerted effort to comment more often and on more blogs over the next month. I will give updates as to my traffic results each week to either prove or dis-prove my theory. If I’m right, I will notice my site visits increase over that time. I am hoping that another beneficial side effect will be that subscriptions to my feed will increase as well. I challenge each of you to do this as well and post your results on my blog; either as a comment to my 1 month update post or as a linkback to one of these posts.
As I am writing this, I just realized that John Chow has just made a post on this topic as well. He has some nice thoughts as to how to get maximum benefit from your comments. Take the recommendations to heart and begin implementing them into your blogging hobby or career.
Happy Blogging.

Yes commenting on other blogs gets you involved in the blogging community, and also gets linkbacks from the blogs that you comment on. I’ve noticed a good traffic increase from this.

Here’s one to wreck your head then: I found your site by writing a review of another person’s blog. This review was read on a third party site that lead the reader to a post on my site where they left a comment. I then followed their comment link and read a posting by them that referenced a review from your site. So, even though you didn’t comment on my site directly, I found you because we both wrote reviews for different people who had some connection. Pretty simple when you think about it!
Now, by you commenting here, you have got me going to your site. I have added your feed to my bloglines account. Oh what a tangled web we weave.

This is a great tip to share with beginning bloggers. My blog is barely over a month old, and I’ve had lots of visitors thanks to comments left on other sites. Getting involved with the blogging community helps in lots of ways, plus if the site happens to have a “Top Commentators” widget, that creates a backlink (which is just a bonus).
You’re right, it’s far and the best way to get new readers to visit.
