Google Twin - Jason Spence

If you don’t know what a Google twin is, here’s a quick definition: A “Google twin” is a person who shares your name, and whose information returns results on Google when you egosurf. There have been some instances of people who become obsessed with their Google twin(s) and their lives. I am currently ranked 6th in a search for “Jason Spence” on Google. I have a goal of getting to number 1 and I’d like to do it by the end of the year. Let’s see if I can do it without becoming obsessed. Since one of the topics of this blog is SEO, I should be able to make the needed adjustments to make it happen. There are many ways to make the necessary adjustments, but I will focus on 2 of them.

First, I will begin to use my full name within this blog more often. More specifically, I will include it in the title of posts when it makes sense. This is the first post to do so, but expect more in the coming year. One of the many factors that Google uses to order search results is keyword placement and ranking. If it finds the phrase “Jason Spence” in my site many times, it will obviously move up in the rankings. Google also seems to place a higher weighting to keywords it finds in the title of posts, hence my full name appearing in the title of this post. I will also modify my theme to include the author of each individual article. I am currently the only author of this site, but that may not be the case forever.

Second, I will continue to work towards getting quality links to my blog. That seems to be the key to getting a higher Google PageRank, which couldn’t hurt in my Google Twin rank. Notice that I said I’m working toward getting quality links to my blog. In the past, just having links to your blog would suffice, but recent improvements by Google’s algorithms have negated the many attempts to artificially generate many links. A quality link includes links from sites with a similar topic to yours or links from highly ranked/respected sites. Now if I could get those links to have the anchor text of Jason Spence, I would move up all that much quicker.

It won’t be easy and I don’t expect it to happen over night, but I WILL move up in the Jason Spence rankings. Here is a summary of the current top 6.

  1. Hockeydb.com
  2. Professional Auctioneer
  3. ecos Sourceware
  4. Christian York - Wiki
  5. Jr’s LightConsulting
  6. BlissLogs

Notice that I didn’t provide links to their sites. Why would I provide them with links to improve their rankings? Stay tuned for updates to the rankings.

It looks like your backlinks aren’t working (or you like to moderate them).

Check out my named domain to see my post about you.

That’s weird. I’ll have to look into why that backlink didn’t work. It should have went right through. I don’t even see it in my comment spam list.

I’m not convinced there is something wrong with my site accepting backlinks. I just made a post and provided a backlink to an older post, which came through as a backlink in that older posts comments. Are you sure your blog is sending them correctly?

As one Jason Spence to the other, good luck, I don’t think I am currently on the main page, but that isn’t much of a surprise. I am the 6th one on Yahoo though.
