Top 5 Reasons Bloggers Make Great Pets

Darren Rowse is putting on a little group writing project. Well maybe it’s not so little as he had 132 submissions in the project’s first day. Let’s add to that by participating here at BlissLogs.

5. Dogs will do anything you want if you give them a treat. Bloggers will join any contest if you offer them a treat; like say $1001.

Joining contests and hosting contests offer a win-win situation for bloggers. If you participate in a contest and the host provides a link back to your site, you have the perfect opportunity to gain new readers. This is also the perfect opportunity to find other blogs to participate in, which in turn exposes your blog to the ever expanding blogosphere. What a vicious cycle!

4. Cats curl up on the back of the couch and waste the day away. Bloggers curl up in front of their computer reading other blogs for hours on end and waste the day away.

This may not be considered wasting the day away if it is productive browsing, but let’s face it; there is a low percentage of browsing that is completely productive. A productive browsing session should consist of not only reading many other blog posts, but also contributing comments to those posts as well. I too often get caught up in the content that I’m reading and forget to place comments of my own.

3. Many pets get overly excited to receive food scraps from their almighty owners. Bloggers would get overly excited to receive page visit scraps from Pro-Bloggers like Darren Rowse or John Chow.

Even the smallest amount of visitors that we novice bloggers receive from links off of their sites is enough to sometimes double our readership and make for a very successful week in terms of page visit counts.

2. If you go to a park, which is a popular hang-out of dog owners, you will notice that they are all doing the same things. . . Trying to catch a Frisbee, fetching a ball, just running around wildly, etc. If you visit enough blogs about blogging, you will notice that they are all covering the same topics. . . How to generate more traffic, the best WordPress plugins, ways to monetize your site, etc.

And the number 1 reason bloggers would make great pets . . .

1. Most of us are house trained.

“House trained” is subjective. I go a little stir-crazy if left home alone for too long. And while I tend not to ruin carpets, I might eat something I’m not supposed to (junk food), make a mess (papers strewn about), or even make lots of loud noises that freak out neighbors (iTunes).

I dunno… does that count as House Trained?

I think that would fall under the category of misunderstood. Maybe you should take a visit to the blogger whisperer.

Brilliant. I think you deserve the bone (prize).

You’re being a bit hard on cats though. I try to copy some of my cat’s most positive characteristics in my blogging:

Independence - knowing your own mind, doing your own stuff
Loyalty - going back to the sites you love and yes leaving comments (you’re right - we’re pets and like the strokes)
Purring - showing appreciation - being generous and telling other people when their stuff is great

And if I chose to curl up and take a nap in the afternoon I think that’s my business isn’t it?!

    Best wishes

    Joanna

And bloggers like their backs scratched like dogs and cats. A simple comment will have them purring or grring with pleasure.

Very cute — and sadly true. :)

Yep, another table scrap from Darren’s.

The way you associated bloggers with pets is very hilarious.

Novice bloggers really do get excited especially when someone famous visit their blog. LOL.

Thanks for your post. A nice and enjoyable read!
