GooGoo for Google Monday – Google Talk

Google Talk isn’t your mamma’s IM client. Yes, it will satisfy all you IM needs, but it is all its other  features that set it apart.  Some of those features:  voice calls, voicemail, file transfers, Gmail notifications.  Google Talk was the first to give clear voice calls via their IM client.  It makes it easy to transfer files.  It gives you notifications on your PC that you’ve received new email through GMail.

You may have noticed that I skipped over that whole voicemail part.  Here’s a tip for you bloggers out there.  If you want to spice up your blog a bit, add your voice to it.  Using Google Talk, leave yourself a voicemail.  This recorded message can then be placed on your blog to tell your story.

Improve Your Google PageRank in 4 Easy Steps

It is widely speculated that Google is set to update PageRank again, so now is the perfect time to manipulate your blog’s rank in 4 easy steps.

By now, you know that the primary way to improve your blogs rank is to get links.  Not just links, but quality links.  What is a quality link?  In its simplest form, a quality link is a link from a page with a high pagerank. Now, it is time to use some carefully placed comments along with some carefully placed links to boost you PageRank.

Step 1:  Find another blog with a PR of at least 4 and with the nofollow tag turned off. I’m sure you already read a blog that meet these requirements.

Step 2:  Within that blog, find a single page with a PR of at least 4 and comment on it linking back to your site with well chosen keywords.

Step 3:  Help out the PR of that page that you just commented on by linking to it from a post, or a blogroll entry, from your blog.

Step 4:  (Optional)  Repeat Steps 1 & 2; except this time, link back to the page you created in Step 3.

These 4 steps get you links from sites with an already established PR and passes out some link love in the process. I’m sure you’ve got other variations on this manipulation scheme.  Let me hear em.

GooGoo for Google Monday – Gmail

If you have anything to do with the web, you have something to do with Google. Google is not just for searching anymore. Every Monday, this being the first, I will tell you about a Google tool that you may or may not know about.

Today, I’ll sing the virtues of Gmail and tell you how they make it easier for you to drink while emailing. Gmail has changed the way we use and view email. Gmail not only shows you your emails, it displays them as conversations. We’ve all become too accustomed to reading email in a very linear fashion. Google adds dimensions to your email by grouping an entire conversation together in one thread. The days of searching for an old email to see what you wrote 2 weeks ago are over. Now when you receive the reply, your original is included in the thread. I guess what they’ve done is made it easier to email while you drink. Pick your favorite adult beverage and check your Gmail.

Could you use some storage for those important pictures or personal documents that are just too important to rely on your personal pc for storage? Engadget provides a way to use your Gmail for that precious off-site storage. I used this procedure about 2 years ago, let me know if it still works.

In a completely unexpected move, Google has made searching your entire mailbox useful and fast. Search for any word, and every post with that word is displayed for your evaluation. Finally, Google gets search right.

What do you use your Gmail account for? Next weeks GooGoo for Google topic? Google Talk.
